Critical Nevada & Clark County (Las Vegas) Authorization Rules (NRS § 122.062 – § 122.066)

Church ordination alone does not authorize you to perform a legal marriage in Nevada. Every officiant must obtain county authorization before performing a ceremony. In Clark County (Las Vegas), the County Clerk Marriage Services Division administers two distinct pathways:

1. Single-Ceremony Authorization (Friends & Out-of-State Officiants)

Valid for one specific wedding (up to 5 applications per calendar year). Requires completing Clark County’s official online officiant training course and submitting a notarized Single-Ceremony application plus a notarized character reference received by the Clark County Clerk at least 30 days before the wedding date.

2. Five-Year Certificate of Authority

Available to active ministers and religious officials meeting Nevada residency, background screening, church endorsement, and county training requirements.

Three separate parts of a Nevada wedding (NRS §§ 122.062–122.066)

COUNTY CLERK AUTHORIZATION REQUIRED BEFORE OFFICIATING (ORDINATION ALONE IS NOT COUNTY APPROVAL): Under NRS §§ 122.062–122.066, every officiant must apply for and receive a Certificate of Permission / Authorization from a Nevada County Clerk BEFORE performing a marriage. In Clark County (Las Vegas), there are two distinct county routes: (1) Single-Ceremony Authorization (residents & non-residents, up to 5 weddings/year): requires completing Clark County’s online officiant training course, a notarized Single-Ceremony Application, a notarized Character Reference, church endorsement, and applicable county fee—RECEIVED AT LEAST 30 DAYS BEFORE THE WEDDING; or (2) Five-Year / Ongoing Authorization: requires Nevada residency (or qualifying active congregation), background check, county fee, and training. Confirm current fee schedules directly with the County Clerk.
