Helpful delivery notes for the officiant

  • Clarify transparently with the couple that this is a legally binding Christian civil/ministerial liturgy honoring Catholic liturgical cadence rather than a diocesan canonical parish Mass.
  • Maintain a serene, unhurried liturgical posture—hands folded gently when not holding the ritual book.
  • Include the brief Sign of Peace right after the Nuptial Blessing if Catholic family members will appreciate that familiar, warm liturgical touch!

Liturgical Greeting & Opening Collect

[Stage Direction: Greet the assembly warmly and reverently once the processional concludes.]

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. (Guests: "Amen.") Peace be with you all. Dear family and friends, please be seated. We have come together in the sight of God to witness and bless the lifelong love of [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B]. Let us pray. Almighty and eternal God, You consecrated the bond of marriage as a living image of faithful, self-giving love. Look kindly upon [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B] today as they ask Your grace over their union, that what begins in joy may mature across the decades in holiness, mercy, and peace. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Liturgy of the Word — Book of Tobit & Colossians

[Stage Direction: Read with composed, dignified clarity.]

Listen to the wisdom of Scripture from Colossians chapter three: "Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another. And over all these put on love—that is, the bond of perfection. And let the peace of Christ reign in your hearts." [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B], marriage is a vocation of daily grace. You become ministers of God’s tenderness to one another—in how gently you speak at day’s end, how faithfully you carry cross and celebration alike, and how generously your household welcomes others.

The Rite of Questions on Intent & Fidelity

[Stage Direction: Invite the couple to stand facing you and each other for the three classic questions of consent.]

[PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B], you have come here to seal your love before God and this community. I ask you now to state your intentions openly. Have you both come here freely and without reservation to give yourselves to each other in marriage? (Couple: "We have / I have.") Will you love and honor each other as spouses for the rest of your lives? (Couple: "We will / I will.") [PARTNER A], do you take [PARTNER B] as your lawful wedded spouse? ([PARTNER A]: "I do.") [PARTNER B], do you take [PARTNER A] as your lawful wedded spouse? ([PARTNER B]: "I do.")

Part 04 of 06

Exchange of Sacred Consent (Vows)

[Stage Direction: Instruct [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B] to join their right hands.]

Since it is your intention to enter the covenant of marriage, join your right hands and declare your consent before God and His people. [PARTNER A], repeat to [PARTNER B]: "I, [PARTNER A], take you, [PARTNER B], to be my spouse. I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life." [PARTNER B], repeat to [PARTNER A]: "I, [PARTNER B], take you, [PARTNER A], to be my spouse. I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life."

Part 05 of 06

Blessing & Giving of Wedding Rings

[Stage Direction: Make a gentle blessing gesture over the rings.]

May the Lord bless these rings which you give to each other as the sign of your love and fidelity. [PARTNER A], place this ring on [PARTNER B]’s finger and say: "[PARTNER B], receive this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." [PARTNER B], place this ring on [PARTNER A]’s finger and say: "[PARTNER A], receive this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."

Part 06 of 06

Nuptial Blessing & Official Pronouncement

[Stage Direction: Extend hands in blessing over the couple, then step aside after pronouncing.]

Holy Father, Maker of the whole world, pour out the abundance of Your blessing upon [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B]. Let Your peace dwell in their home; keep them faithful in trial, joyful in labor, and surrounded by loved ones unto a blessed old age. Having received the consent you have declared before God and these witnesses, by the authority vested in me as an ordained minister of Agape Church International and under the laws of this State, I confirm your bond and pronounce you married! Go in peace—you may share a kiss of love and peace!
