Warm Christian Wedding Ceremony Script
A grace-filled Christian marriage liturgy centered on unconditional Agape love (1 Corinthians 13), pastoral prayer, and lifelong covenant.
Helpful delivery notes for the officiant
- Invite guests to bow their heads gently rather than abruptly so non-churchgoing relatives feel welcomed into the prayer.
- Read 1 Corinthians 13 slowly, letting each attribute of love—"patient," "kind," "never fails"—land cleanly in the room.
- Hold your Bible or ceremony folio at waist height so your voice projects naturally toward the couple and front rows.
Pastoral Greeting & Call to Worship
Grace, mercy, and peace to each of you. Family and friends, please be seated. Today we gather in the presence of God and this beloved community to witness and bless the sacred covenant of marriage between [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B]. Scripture reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes from above, and there are few gifts on this earth brighter than finding a companion whose soul steadies, sharpens, and delights your own. [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B] want to thank you—their parents, grandparents, siblings, and dearest friends—for your prayers, your example, and the love that carried them to this altar today.
Opening Prayer of Invocation
Let us pray together. Gracious and loving God, Author of life and Giver of love, we thank You for this joyful day. Thank You for the providence that brought [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B]’s paths together and grew their affection into steadfast commitment. Pour out Your Holy Spirit upon this ceremony. Quiet every anxious thought, fill this space with Your peace, and bind [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B] together with a cord of three strands that is not quickly broken. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
Scripture Reading — Agape Love (1 Corinthians 13:4–8)
In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul uses a distinct Greek word for the highest, most enduring love: Agape—self-giving, unconditional covenant love. Hear these words from First Corinthians chapter thirteen: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B], feelings will ebb and surge across the decades, yet Agape is a daily decision—to forgive as Christ forgave you, to serve one another in humility, and to keep no scorecard in your home.
Declaration of Covenant Intent
[PARTNER A], before God and these witnesses, do you receive [PARTNER B] as your covenant spouse—promising to love, cherish, honor, and uphold them in faith and tenderness so long as you both shall live? ([PARTNER A]: "I do.") [PARTNER B], before God and these witnesses, do you receive [PARTNER A] as your covenant spouse—promising to love, cherish, honor, and uphold them in faith and tenderness so long as you both shall live? ([PARTNER B]: "I do.")
Christian Marriage Vows
[PARTNER A], please repeat these covenant vows to [PARTNER B]: "In the sight of God, I, [PARTNER A], take you, [PARTNER B], to be my wedded spouse—to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love with Christ’s patience and cherish with undivided loyalty, all the days of my life." [PARTNER B], please repeat these covenant vows to [PARTNER A]: "In the sight of God, I, [PARTNER B], take you, [PARTNER A], to be my wedded spouse—to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love with Christ’s patience and cherish with undivided loyalty, all the days of my life."
Blessing & Exchange of Rings
Lord, bless these rings that [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B] give and receive as outward signs of an inward, unbroken grace. [PARTNER A], place this ring upon [PARTNER B]’s finger and say: "[PARTNER B], receive this ring as a pledge of my faith and unending love, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." [PARTNER B], place this ring upon [PARTNER A]’s finger and say: "[PARTNER A], receive this ring as a pledge of my faith and unending love, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."
Benediction & Statutory Pronouncement
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and grant your household abiding peace. Forasmuch as [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B] have consented together in holy matrimony before God and this company, by the authority vested in me as an ordained minister of Agape Church International and the laws of this State, I pronounce that you are husband and wife—united in marriage! What God has joined together, let no one separate. You may kiss! Friends, let us celebrate [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B]!
