Helpful delivery notes for the officiant

  • Let the parents hold the baby comfortably throughout the service unless they explicitly practice handing the infant to you beforehand—babies stay far calmer in a parent’s arms.
  • Smile warmly if the baby coos, squirms, or cries; gently remind guests that a baby’s voice is the sweetest liturgy in the room.
  • Sign and present a printed Baby Dedication Certificate immediately afterward for family photographs.

Joyful Welcome & Presentation of the Child

[Stage Direction: Invite [PARTNER B] to stand beside you holding [PARTNER A], along with any grandparents or godparents invited forward.]

Family, godparents, and cherished friends—welcome! Few occasions on earth carry as much wonder and pure hope as gathering around a new life. Today we stand together with [PARTNER B] to celebrate, name, and bless their beloved child, [PARTNER A]. Every tiny heartbeat, curled finger, and wide-eyed glance in [PARTNER A]’s face reminds us that life is an unrepeatable miracle entrusted to our care. Long before [PARTNER A] can understand the words we speak today, this child already feels the warmth of the voices and arms surrounding them. Thank you for forming a circle of affection, wisdom, and steady protection around this family from the very first chapter of [PARTNER A]’s story.

Part 02 of 06

The Meaning & Pronouncement of the Name

[Stage Direction: Turn affectionately toward [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B], inviting parents to share any family namesake note if desired.]

A name is the very first heirloom parents bestow upon a child—a word spoken in midnight lullabies, cheered from sidelines, written across milestones, and whispered in grateful prayer. Across scripture and human tradition, to speak a child’s name publicly is to affirm their distinct dignity and irreplaceable place in the human family. [PARTNER B], what name have you chosen for this child? ([PARTNER B] speak the full name aloud.) [PARTNER A], may you wear your name with kindness, fearless curiosity, and quiet confidence. May everyone who speaks the name [PARTNER A] across the decades encounter honesty, compassion, and a generous spirit.

Part 03 of 06

Parental Covenant & Promises of Nurture

[Stage Direction: Address [PARTNER B] directly with warmth and reverence.]

[PARTNER B], parenting is never a call to flawlessness; it is a daily covenant of steadfast presence, patience, and unconditional agape love. Remembering that [PARTNER A] is entrusted to your care not as clay to control, but as a living soul whose own gifts and calling will unfold year by year: Do you promise to build a home of physical and emotional safety, truthfulness, belly laughter, and quick forgiveness—listening closely as [PARTNER A] grows, modeling humility when you make mistakes, nurturing reverent wonder, and loving this child wholeheartedly through every season of life? ([PARTNER B]: "We do.")

Charge to Godparents, Grandparents & Circle of Support

[Stage Direction: Look out across the grandparents, godparents, aunts, uncles, and gathered friends.]

No parent was ever meant to raise a child on an island. To the grandparents, godparents, relatives, and dear friends gathered here today: your family stories, your patient listening, and your open kitchen tables will help shape how [PARTNER A] understands faithfulness and belonging in a busy world. Will you stand beside [PARTNER B] in bright seasons and exhausted ones alike—offering wise counsel without judgment, practical help when hands are full, and a lifelong harbor of encouragement for [PARTNER A]? If so, please answer together: "We will!" (Guests: "We will!")

Hands-On Prayer of Dedication & Blessing

[Stage Direction: Ask permission, then lightly rest a hand near [PARTNER A]’s shoulder or extend an open hand of blessing while [PARTNER B] hold their child close.]

Let us join our hearts in blessing. Gracious Giver of every breath and Author of love, just as Jesus welcomed little children into His arms and blessed them, we bring [PARTNER A] before You today with overflowing gratitude. Guard [PARTNER A]’s health, awaken curiosity and wisdom in their mind, and plant deep courage and tenderness within their heart. Grant [PARTNER B] restorative rest, steady discernment, daily humor, and abundant grace for every milestone ahead. Surround this household with peace, protect [PARTNER A]’s steps from infancy into adulthood, and let their life become a wellspring of healing and gladness to many. Amen.

Presentation to the Gathered Family

[Stage Direction: Invite [PARTNER B] to turn slightly toward the guests so everyone can see [PARTNER A].]

May the road rise gently beneath your feet, little [PARTNER A], and may light shine warmly upon your path. May you always know how deeply you were hoped for, how joyfully you were welcomed into this room today, and how fiercely you are loved. Family and friends, with full hearts and joyful applause, please welcome and bless [PARTNER A], cherished child of [PARTNER B]!
