Interfaith Jewish & Christian Wedding Ceremony Script
Honors both Jewish and Christian heritage with genuine theological respect—incorporating the wedding canopy (Chuppah), Hebrew Scripture, Seven Blessings spirit, and breaking of the glass.
Helpful delivery notes for the officiant
- Use shared sacred ground (Song of Solomon, Genesis, Micah 6:8, and universal blessings of the Creator) so neither family feels excluded or proselytized.
- Wrap a thin-walled lightbulb or ceremonial glass inside a heavy cloth napkin or velvet pouch before placing it under foot for a safe, crisp crunch!
- Prompt the entire room beforehand that the moment the glass shatters, everyone shouts "Mazel Tov!" together!
Welcome Beneath the Canopy (B’ruchim Haba’im)
B’ruchim haba’im—blessed are all of you who come in love and peace today. Family and friends, please be seated. Notice the canopy—the Chuppah—under which [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B] stand. It has a roof overhead and remains open on all four sides, recalling the tent of Abraham and Sarah, which welcomed travelers from every direction with warmth and radical hospitality. Today this canopy shelters a remarkable union: two rich spiritual and family heritages—Jewish and Christian—meeting not by erasing their roots, but by honoring the sacred threads of faith, justice, compassion, and covenant that bind both traditions.
Shared Sacred Scripture — Song of Songs & Micah
From the Hebrew Scriptures treasured across both faiths, the prophet Micah reminds us what the Eternal asks of a faithful life: "To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God." And in the Song of Songs we hear love’s timeless poetry: "I have found the one whom my soul loves... Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as life itself; many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it." [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B], your home is called to be a living sanctuary of shalom—wholeness, grace, mutual reverence, and generous hospitality.
Declaration of Covenant Consent
Before the Almighty and in the presence of your parents, families, and witnesses, declare now your free consent. [PARTNER A], do you take [PARTNER B] to be your lawfully wedded spouse—promising to honor their heritage, walk together in loving-kindness and truth, and cherish them faithfully all the days of your life? ([PARTNER A]: "I do.") And [PARTNER B], do you take [PARTNER A] to be your lawfully wedded spouse—promising to honor their heritage, walk together in loving-kindness and truth, and cherish them faithfully all the days of your life? ([PARTNER B]: "I do.")
Interfaith Covenant Vows & Ring Exchange
[PARTNER A], place this unbroken ring on [PARTNER B]’s finger and repeat after me: "[PARTNER B], you are my beloved and my friend—Ani l’dodi v’dodi li. With this ring, I consecrate my life to yours in patience, fidelity, laughter, and unconditional love forever." [PARTNER B], place this unbroken ring on [PARTNER A]’s finger and repeat after me: "[PARTNER A], you are my beloved and my friend—Ani l’dodi v’dodi li. With this ring, I consecrate my life to yours in patience, fidelity, laughter, and unconditional love forever."
Sevenfold Blessing of Peace & Joy
Blessed are You, Eternal God, Creator of all humanity and Author of joy. We ask sevenfold blessings upon [PARTNER A] and [PARTNER B]: bless them with wisdom, with health, with patience that forgives quickly, with children or generations touched by their kindness, with tables full of celebration, with steadfast faith, and with the voice of gladness and peace echoing inside their home. May the Lord bless you and keep you; may God’s face shine upon you and grant you shalom—abiding peace.
Pronouncement & Breaking of the Glass ("Mazel Tov!")
Having witnessed your sacred vows and free consent beneath this canopy, by the authority vested in me as an ordained minister of Agape Church International and under the laws of this State, I pronounce you legally married! Before your first kiss, we conclude with the ancient breaking of the glass—reminding us that even in our highest joy we remember life’s fragility, and praying that your marriage will endure for as long as it would take these shattered pieces to reassemble: forever! Stomp that glass—MAZEL TOV! You may kiss!
